Articling Students
Our articling program offers you flexibility to explore
areas of practice that may be of interest to you.
We have no formal rotation system. You will be able
to work with all lawyers at the firm and do not spend a specific
predetermined amount of time in any one practice area.
Before you start, we ask you for your primary area(s)
of interest (which you are free to change over the course of articles).
Historically, our students have split their time at
the firm as follows:
a) 75% Litigation, Mediation, and Arbitration
b) 25% Corporate and Commercial
Our program is geared to litigation but you will have
exposure to business law.
One of the partners at the firm will be assigned as
your mentor. You will meet with your mentor on a weekly basis. You
will be guided through a formal education plan to ensure you are
exposed to all aspects of the practice of law. You will have hands
on experience! You have an opportunity meet with clients and other
professionals (such as experts), handle your own files, and assist
associates and partners on complex files. We believe in a team approach
to all files. You will be part of the team.
The firm encourages students to participate in the
business development and social activities of the firm. During the
year you will have an opportunity to:
a) attend seminars presented by firm members to clients
and the public
b) write articles for our newsletter
c) attend our monthly firm lunch, our quarterly social event and
the impromptu wing nights, sailing nights, and sports tournaments
Compensation and Benefits
Your compensation will be competitive with that
of students at other downtown Toronto firms. You will be offered
two weeks of paid vacation, an extended healthcare plan, a dental
plan, and life insurance. We will pay your salary during the Skills
and Professional Responsibility Program and self-study periods.
